Visiting medieval gold town of Kremnica, city tour including town castle (national monument) and the St Catherine's Church.

Gold has been mined in Kremnica already 1,000 years ago. The town received municipal privileges by King Karol Robert in 1328, when a mint, which is in operation until today, was founded.

Town castle in Kremnica consists of a system of medieval buildings of 13th-15th century. The castle is protected by fortification connected with walls. Kremnica walls are considered to be ones of the best preserved town walls in Slovakia. The Castle is a National Cultural Monument.

Optional visit of the Museum of Coins and Medals
The Museum of Coins and Medals at Kremnica was founded in 1890 by the town's archivist Pavol Krizko. It functioned as homeland museum, but right from its beginnings was oriented to building up a collection of coins and medals. In 1976 it was given the name Museum of Coins and Medals and the statute of a specialized institution for documenting the activity of the Kremnica mint, operating in the town uninteruptedly since 1329. The Museum has exhibitions installed in several historical buildings that are part of the town's monument reserve. Since 1994 it falls under the competence of the National Bank of Slovakia. The gallery roomsare situated in the old building at the square. The present late baroque form of the building dates back to the half of the C18. Inside you can admire a vaulting ceiling of a room with preserved wall paintings from 1525 and 1527.
